carrd info updated on Feb. 20 '24 – story update!

❄ Early Life ❄

Born between an Elezen Ishgardian knight & a Miqo'te chocobo caretaker from Tailfeather, Triir grew up in the outskirts of the Coerthan Forelands settlement, where he learned his mother's trade as a chocobo breeder & trainer. They specialized in raising black chocobos & his mother would often travel towards the city of Ishgard to sell them to the nobles & knights. His father, unfortunately, passed in the fall of Dusk Vigil when he was but a few years old.It was during one of these business trips to Ishgard with his mother that tragedy struck once more – a Dravanian horde dropped on their caravan, taking her life & leaving Triir gravely wounded under the rubble. Knights stationed in the area brought him & the surviving chocobos out of the harsh cold to the nearby Camp Dragonhead, where the newly appointed head, Lord Haurchefant, saw to it that he was treated. Now orphaned, & quite anxious to return through the cold & mountains to an empty home back in Tailfeather, Haurchefant offered for Triir to remain at Dragonhead – an offer he'd eagerly accept. He would continue to care for his remaining chocobos here, as well as the knights', & train himself better for combat. He & Haurchefant became quite the pair & tackled any duty they could together for the next ten years of the war.

❄ Post-Dragonsong War ❄

After the events of The Vault & the beginning of the Dragonsong War's final verse, Triir began to fall into a dangerous depression. The war had taken more from him than he'd realized, & Haurchefant was the straw that broke the camel's back. He attempted to take over work at the camp, but would end up overworking himself into fatigue time after time. One such time almost led to his death due to hypothermia, as his fatigue caused him to get stranded amidst a snowstorm. It was after this event that Triir believed he had no choice but to step down – it was the realization that he was not fit to be in this position, not until he got past these demons.Officially retiring from his post at Camp Dragonhead, Triir would then take a "vacation" into Eorzea; some time away from home to give himself space to grieve, in a less war-torn environment. His travels would take him south towards La Noscea, where he'd pick up the relaxing hobby of fishing, even cooking.

❄ Ishgardian Restoration ❄

He would return to his home city at the beginning of the Ishgardian Restoration, eager to offer his assistance in the rebuilding of The Firmament–where those new fishing skills would surely come in handy. It would be here within The Diadem where Triir catches his first griffins for the reconstruction effort, further leading him to delve into taming the birds, thanks to his previous experience with chocobos. Triir kept a unique one as his own, as well as a young one to look after. He is known specifically as the Griffin Master around the Firmament and proudly upholds that title.

❄ Beastmaster Training ❄

As the Skybuilders' Restoration reached its peak, Triir decided to venture off again, this time into the cliffs of Gyr Abania, as he wished to further his knowledge alongside the Griffin Riders there. He'd acquire his second partner here, and fully learn to team up them in combat. Although he had retired as a Paladin, Triir continued to make use of his physical strength with battleaxes, and trained more in long range combat with chakrams, both on the ground and in the air with his griffin partners. His prowess would lead him to join the battlefields once again. Triir not only offered his assistance against the Beastmasters in the Bozjan Southern Front, but soon after, he would join up with the Ilsabard Contingent as they prepared to enter Garlemald.

❄ Ilsabard Contingent ❄

As the Final Days encroached on the snowy wilderness, Triir and his companions would find themselves facing off against the Blasphemies that quickly began to flood the area. Making sure the civilians escaped from harm was Triir's top priority, which almost became his demise. Surrounded by the beasts, Triir was gravely wounded, and would have died if not protected and pulled to safety by his griffin partners. He was quickly transported with the rest of the refugees to Old Sharlayan for immediate treatment for his injuries.

❄ Current Life ❄

Triir has since spent many months here in recovery, though stubborn as he is, soon ended up requesting a means of getting around until he was strong enough to walk again–many thanks to the engineers of the Studium who helped to fashion him a wheelchair. As soon as he got used to it, he'd gotten himself a part-time job at The Last Stand, and would even help around The Studium in his downtime, where he would rediscover his love of fishing once again.Triir made the most of his time in Sharlayan as he got himself back on track. Now fully recovered and able to move around as he wants again, he's able to go back to as much work as he pleases – which, at this point, could be just about anywhere. Most importantly, he makes a habit to return to his homes. Otherwise, you can probably find him at his avian sanctuary.

– Beastmaster • Griffin Specialist –

Utilizing two of the Griffins that he has raised and trained, Triir has established a bond between them that allows them to sync their aether during combat and share their skills, from physical strength to healing abilities. An aura of a swirling breeze and aetherial feathers will surround them to indicate their connection. Triir's aether has become wind-aspected due to this bond which he can use in combat, & also has specially-fashioned weapons made from his partners' feathers and talons. Wherever Triir goes, you can be sure that his two partners are in the skies nearby, ready for action.

– Talon –

While training in Gyr Abania under the tutelage of Giff and the Ala Mhigan resistance, Triir one day found himself in a stand-off with one of their True Griffins – a stubborn one who continuously denied riders. Triir, instinctively, intercepted one of the beasts' attacks on one of the trainees, earning him a sizeable gash to his left arm. He was used to having to physically wrangle these birds, though this one proved to be a hell of a lot stronger once Triir had gotten ahold of the reins. He remained steadfast, even with his injury, which all finally seemed to earn the beast's respect, winning him over. He calmed down under Triir's–and only Triir's–instruction, and was given the name Talon for their memorable first meeting.
Talon has proved himself to be exceptional with physical combat and even more resilient to oncoming assaults – so much so that Triir had a special set of armor fashioned for him. Maybe it was because of Triir's example, but Talon mimics his desire to protect, once he recognizes that someone is close to his master.
Skills:
Freefall: a heavy-hitting physical attack from above
Gust: a close-range wind attack
Cyclone Tackle: a spinning aerial tackle that knocks the target back

– Tempest –

Reeled in from the skies of the Diadem, Tempest was one of the first of Triir's hoard, and her peculiar coloring was one of the initial reasons he decided to keep her for himself. Not only that, but she had taken a very similar interest in him at their first encounter. How a man like him could ground a full-grown beast with a mere fishing rod remains a mystery, but it was that curiosity that ultimately won her over, and urged her to strengthen herself alongside Triir. She was given her name based on the Diadem's weather pattern she was found in.
Compared to most others of her kind, Tempest specializes more in speed and mobility rather than brute strength, and these skills further aid Triir in combat.
Skills:
Alpine Draft: a wind attack blown in a straight line forward
Whirlwind: an AoE attack around the target(s), applies a Windburn DoT
Razor Plumes: a long-range attack from Tempest's sharpened feathers
Divebomb: a fast attack from above, followed by a quick retreat

– Herbert –

Although not a combat companion, Herbert remains steadfast at Triir's side through all of his trials and travels. He found the baby's egg unattended during one trip into the Diadem, without a nest nor a parent in sight. Triir spent extra time there that day, trying to find who may have lost the poor thing, along with the worry that it may not make it due to a noticeable crack in the side... Luckily, the egg hatched with no problems later that night, but ultimately this caused the baby griffin who emerged to imprint upon the one he first caught sight of: Triir, of course. Seemingly his new "parent," Triir gave him his name and decided to keep him under his care–he didn't have much choice, but was happy to anyway. Tempest has also taken it upon herself to act as the little one's mother figure, taking some of the pressure off of Triir, sometimes atleast.

⚔ Skills ⚔

  • Featherfall: A long-ranged attack of aetherial feathers in the shape of a griffin. Grants "Griffin's Might" to both Triir and his griffins, increasing their attack power.

  • Whirlwind Feathers: A combination attack with Tempest; a vortex of her sharpened feathers surrounds the target(s) to deal damage over time. Triir will either add his chakrams to the whirlwind, or close-range attack within the vortex.

  • Aerial Boost: An evasive dash boosted by Tempest's speed.

  • Aerial Strike: A combination attack with Talon's Freefall, stunning the enemy and applying a Vulnerability Up.

  • Warding Plumage: Surrounds Triir and any party members with Talon's aetherial feathers which temporarily protect against incoming attacks.

  • Aerial Reprisal: A dash attack from Triir and Talon consecutively, in which Talon can parry an enemy's attack.

  • Feathery Bulwark: Aetherial griffin wings protrude from Triir and the feathers that fall from it surround the party, granting them some healing and temporarily forming a shield around them.

  • Airlift: Comparable to Rescue, Triir calls Tempest down to a party member to pull them to safety.

  • Griffin’s Guard: Talon flies to a targeted party member's side, blocking and/or parrying any attacks that come at them.

  • Icarus: A SGE ability, with the visual effect takeing the shape of Griffin wings behind Triir and Griffin talons from his arms. When gap-closing to an enemy, the talons deliver a bleeding DoT effect. When gap-closing to a party member, a regen is applied instead.

  • Harmonious Assault: The trio's most powerful ability, fully syncing their aether together. Triir's eyes glow the bright blues shared by his partners, and he is temporarily boosted in speed and physical strength. His aura becomes reminiscent to a PLD's Passage of Arms in the shape of outstretched griffin wings for the duration of this ability. His griffins must temporarily step back after this skill's use to recover their aether.

The handful of Triir's flock that took to his training exceptionally well and have continued to work for him and the many people of Etheirys.

– Remy –

One of many of the griffins fished up from the Diadem, Triir returned to The Firmament with Remy, eager to train him for a job in the reconstruction. Although he excelled at carrying supplies and had exceptional speed, he wasn't a fan of the crowds that so often gathered around. Triir decided to pull Remy out on his own changing his training to make him a Messenger instead–this way he could deal with people one-on-one rather than large crowds. Triir gives Basil first priority for sending messages, but offers Remy's messenger services to whomever may need, be it letters or packages. Triir even had a special Postmoogle cap and saddle made for him.

– Roux –

Named for the reddish hue in her feathers, Roux was a natural-born leader who immediately seemed to take charge over the other griffins that now resided in The Firmament for its construction. As one of Triir's first catches, she was one of the most trained and seemingly eager to pass on her knowledge. Renowned around The Firmament for her strength, you can usually find her amongst the crowds of workers or carrying heavy supplies through the streets, and her saddle is adorned with various tools.

– Quill –

Much like Remy, Quill proved that he was an exceptional worker when it came to transport and physical strength. A social butterfly, he would even offer rides to many of the workers to their homes back into the city. Once construction started to die down and his services weren't in such a high demand, Triir instead took him to the local chocobokeeps and porters, where he'd happily help taxi people and cargo to both local and faraway destinations. Now he gets to fulfill his own wanderlust around Eorzea while helping people at the same time.

– Gunther –

Before meeting Talon, Gunther was assigned as Triir's training partner during his time spent in Gyr Abania. He'd been bred by the Resistance Griffin Riders, and would now also be learning about carrying people and entering combat. Gunther proved his intelligence as he'd caught on quite quickly. He even seemed proud of his feats, and he was always eager to charge into battle whenever the time arrived. His fighting prowess meant the end of many warmachina during the war.
He and Triir formed a bond in their training together & he initially wanted to take him along on his adventures as well, but the Griffin seemed indecisive about leaving the rest of his team. Triir decided it was best for him to remain at the Resistance camps in The Fringes. He proudly represents the Riders of Velodyna and continues to assist the other members–man and beast alike–in their training.

– Feathered Friends Sanctuary –

"Home Base" of Triir's working griffins, and rehabilitation center for the injured and aging.
In his travels, he's not only found the most skillful of beasts, but also those in need of recuperation. Using one of the island sanctuaries within La Noscea, Triir houses these griffins amongst roosts and pastures, where he helps to care for the sick and injured, raise the young, and make sure they all live a comfortable, happy life. Even his working griffins return here often to rest.
Once fully recovered, they are free to return to the world, or choose to stay at the sanctuary and the wilds of the island. Triir continues to take in any of the birds in need, responding to calls from anywhere in Etheirys to offer his aid.
Upon the island is a mixture of griffins and true griffins, ranging in age from hatchlings to a few centuries old. An escapee of Vochstein resides here, wishing to spend the rest of his years in peace–as well as an Alkonost that Triir rescued from the Bozjan warfront. Triir's trusty chocobo also makes his nest here, similarly retired from the combat life.

He pours his milk before his cereal.Although of mixed blood, he most physically resembles a Miqo'te, other than being taller than average. He's very in-tune with this cat side and won't be afraid to purr if he's happy.Amongst various other scars from bird-wrestling & near-death experience, a particularly noticeable claw-shaped scar mark can be seen across his left arm; the result of a tussle with Talon. He is also blind in his scarred right eye, an injury from his childhood after the Dravanian attack that took his mother's life.Despite his past grievances, he holds no grudges towards the Dravanians or heretics alike. He is simply content with the fall of Thordan and the end of the Dragonsong War.He has taken up cooking after lots of practice, although his dishes tend to be a little unorthodox in appearance. After much trial & error with some dishes, he's made quite a few recipes that taste great despite their appearance and/or ingredients. Sometimes to Dickon's dismay, Triir likes to offer these while he's taking shifts at The Last Stand. His chocobo companion is pure-black plumed and named Eggplant, who he has been raising for years – hence the name he had chosen when he was still a child.During his downtime in Sharlayan, since he had been forced to retire his heavier weapons, he took up study in the art of somanoutics to further his combat experience and enhance his healing knowledge.IC Residences:

Feel free to use these as some inspiration to start an RP, or as a way to discuss a pre-established relationship if you'd like–just let me know! I'm open to ideas.

❄ If you've passed through Coerthas, it's likely you've crossed paths with Triir while he was working at Camp Dragonhead. He made patrols often, and had plenty of tussles with heretics and dragons...❄ If you're visiting The Firmament, you're sure to find Triir helping with any construction, bringing in supplies, and generally just helping with the upkeep. This includes the Skyrise Celebrations. You'll see his griffins helping around the town as well.❄ Triir can be seen roaming the rest of the city of Foundation, either for leisure or work. He could be having a drink in the tavern, or visiting family in The Pillars, or poking in at the Lightfeather Proving Grounds, or cleaning up at the Holy Stables... you name it.❄ Fishing enthusiast? You'll grab Triir's attention right away. He loves to talk fish, or tag along with someone to go catch some. Be prepared to hear a lot of Diadem fishing stories.❄ Herbert might look unfriendly, but it's pretty common for him to approach a stranger and loiter around them, maybe bother them for food. Triir does his best to keep him from causing trouble, like an unruly son...❄ Ties with the Ala Mhigan Resistance or the Ilsabard Contingent? Maybe you fought together with Triir, or against him, during the wars against the Empire. He continues to offer his aid to the groups, mainly with the Griffin Riders and their training in Gyr Abania.❄ Patron of The Last Stand in Old Sharlayan? Triir may be the one taking or cooking your order. Or maybe you've overheard him suggesting some wild-sounding recipe for Dickon to add to the menu...❄ Similarly, Triir likes to hang around The Studium if he's got nothing to do. There might be a student or a professor in need of an errand – and if not, there's a great place nearby to watch the sunset...❄ Other than Foundation and Old Sharlayan, Triir's not great with finding his way around big cities, so you might find him lost along the streets somewhere... He's much better at finding his way in the wilderness, especially somewhere that he can take flight!❄ to be added!

I'm a very casual FFXIV player and still a bit new to RP on this platform. I have been writing for 10+ years though, and Triir is originally from my own fantasy story. He has been tweaked here to fit FFXIV lore, and his story might still be going through some editing. I hope you enjoy playing with him!Icon by @meroaw
